The Turfectionists™: An Interview with Tim Warren & Monina Gilbey at Glenelg Golf Club main

Introducing our latest Turfectionists™ Tim Warren, Course Superintendent, and Monina Gilbey, Biodiversity Manager from Glenelg Golf Club, the 2022 ASTMA Claude Crockford Environmental Award Co-Winners.

In this video, Andrew Peart from Syngenta’s Turf and Landscape team chats with Tim Warren, Course Superintendent, about the enhancement programs that are elevating the level of Glenelg Golf Club. For example, its strategic layout and a new irrigation system, which is planned to help save up to 30% of water usage. Then see the 17th Tee Aquifer storage and recovery system, which is expected to improve the quality of water. Tim also demonstrated incredible work done on waterways, that significantly improved the look and feel of the golf course, and the infamous revetted bunker predicted to last about 10-15 years (!).

Andrew also had a chance to chat to Monina Gilbey, Biodiversity Manager, about club's special connection with the local community and how it ignited a few interesting initiatives and projects. For example, one donated bee hive from a local community member resulted in Monina becoming a registered bee keeper, producing honey, and even making soaps from the leftover honey and lavender from the club house garden. Another interesting project that's been done is turning managed turf and into naturalised rough, which has helped reduce maintenance of the area: less chemical, resources and water usage.

Tim and Monina from Glenelg Golf Club are an inspiration to many turf managers as they demonstrate incredible work around their golf club, supporting sustainability, biodiversity and ecological connectivity along with creating special connections with the local community members.
